Resembling an aquatic stingray with a long pointed tail, this unusual alocasia adds a touch of the exotic to your garden or patio. Like all Alocasia , the leaves of Stingray point upward and outward, which show off its ribbed, leathery, emerald green surface. Stingray unfurls new leaves quickly as long as it’s given ample moisture and sun.
Originally from Southeast Asia, this exotic plant is familiar with the rainforest floor – meaning it loves a moist, humid environment – and its large leaves will follow the path of light (so be sure to rotate yours once in while). Alocasia Stingray doesn’t like dryness at the roots, but too much water will cause the roots to rot. Unlike conventional house plant watering wisdom the best approach is to water little but often. For best results, plant yours in a pot with a drainage hole so any excess water can easily escape.
It will do well in a warm, brightly lit spot, but be warned, too much direct sunlight will burn its waxy leaves. It prefers a spot that receives indirect sunlight around a corner, or through a set of blinds.
It becomes dormant in the winter months so don’t worry if it is not showing signs of growth, just wait for the spring.
Please note that the photo is indicative, each plant has different shape and size.
