Palms are one of the most documented and most studied plants in the world and there are over 2600 species of palm tree types known today. Cocos nucifera (coconut palm) is a well-known slow growth palm tree from which coconuts develop. It is symbolic of tropical islands and beaches but then of a size that fits into your living-room.
In its natural habitat the coconut palm can grow to a height of 35 metres, but inside 2 metres is the maximum. Cocos nucifera prefer being in bright sunlight and do better in warm surroundings in a fertile, well-drained soil. It can be placed also in the garden/balcony in a sunny but sheltered spot from mid-May to mid-September. The palm needs only little water, once a week is enough without there being danger of the potting soil drying out.
A nice detail is that this plant still has the coconut from which it germinated lying at its foot.
Please note that the photo is indicative, each plant has different shape and size.
