Also known as a forest cactus or rhipsalis boliviana, this beautifully unique plant has a Cacti genus but has slightly different needs to a standard Cactus.
This epiphytic or lithophytic jungle cactus can be found growing on trees in the Bolivian jungle, it produces masses of many-branched somewhat 4-angled slender stems. Branches are green flattened up to 30cm long and up to 2cm wide. With long flat stems this plant can grow over a metre in length and so is the perfect trailing or cascading shelf plant.
In optimum conditions it will flower, these are usually pink or white.
Lepismium Bolivianum prefers to be kept on the dry side. It is easy to care for, loving a bright sunny spot and a little bit of water. Make sure that it is potted in well drained compost such as cactus compost to prevent soggy roots. In spring and summer, water when the compost gets dry, but make sure it never sits in excess water for any length of time. In autumn and winter cut back on the watering but do not let it dry out completely.
Lepismium Bolivianum is a spine-less cactus, meaning there’s nothing to prick you.
Please note that the photo is indicative, each plant has different shape and size. This plant comes in a plastic hanging pot.
