Philodendron hederaceum, Velvet leaf Philodendron or Micans, is part of the Araceae family, found in North, South, Central America and Caribbean areas. The habits of growth for this species is both epiphytic and hemiepiphytic. This evergreen can grow upward of 15 feet if properly cared for. The mature form will produce a white spathes flower.
Micans has iridescent, heart-shaped leaves that are velvety to the touch and almost quilted in texture. Depending on the light, the color of the foliage can look deep green or rich purple, with the new leaves emerging chartreuse, edged with pink. Vining in habit, it will cascade elegantly in a hanging planter, or can be trained to climb up a trellis. If you love interesting foliage, this easy to care plant is a perfect addition to your collection.
Like most other plants in the Philodendron genus, Micans enjoys a mild climate that is neither too hot nor too cold and neither too bright nor too dark—it likes to be in just the right place. For best results, place your plant in an area with moderate lighting, mild indoor temperatures, and comfortable airflow. Avoid extremes of any kind.
It likes regular watering (but not over-watering). Allow the soil surface to become dry to the touch before watering again.
Please note that the photo is indicative, each plant has different shape and size. This plant comes in a plastic hanging pot.
