Pilea peperomioides is a rare and highly sought after indoor houseplant native to the mountain forests of Yunnan in China. Also referred to as Chinese Money Plant, Missionary Plant, or Pancake Plant, Pilea peperomioides is easy to grow and propagate.
The glossy green leaves of this relatively low-growing houseplant are rounded and have a slightly fleshy texture. They appear on long, slender stalks and forms a loose, rounded dome, which looks quite structured.
The Chinese money plant prefers a well-draining potting soil, and a pot with drainage holes is necessary. The soil needs to mostly dry out between waterings, with more watering required in warmer, sunnier weather. If the leaves start to look slightly droopy, that’s a sign that the plant needs water. Light-wise, the best situation for this plant is bright light, with no direct sunlight. Direct sun scorches leaves, and light shade may encourage larger leaves.
Pilea peperomioides is only suitable as a houseplant in most locations. It doesn’t appreciate temperatures below 10 °C and should be protected from sudden temperature swings.
Please note that the photo is indicative, each plant has different shape and size.
