Also known as a jungle cactus this beautifully unique plant has a Cacti genus but has slightly different needs to a standard Cactus.
This epiphytic or lithophytic jungle cactus can be found growing in a very limited area of Ecuador. The small, white flowers form on long, segmented stems which can be flat or triangular in shape depending on age.
Growing on trees, it produces masses of many-branched somewhat 4-angled beautiful flat ribbon-like stems. Branches are green flattened up to 30cm long and up to 2cm wide. With long flat stems this plant can grow over a metre in length and so is the perfect trailing or cascading shelf plant.
In optimum conditions it will flower, these are usually orange-pink or white.
Rhipsalis micrantha f. rauhiorum prefers bright, indirect light and a well drained soil or cactus mix. Keep the soil moist but don’t allow it to sit in water or the plant will rot. It does appreciate humidity, but will do well in normal household temperatures and conditions. Rauhiorum is a distinct subspecies and not easy to come by and is a beautiful and unusual plant to have in any collection.
Please note that the photo is indicative, each plant has different shape and size. This plant comes in a plastic hanging pot.
