The Papier d’Armenie is one of France best kept secrets. Since its introduction in 1885 (to promote the sanitizing properties of benzoin resin), the Papier d’Armenie has been gaining in popularity as a natural air freshener.
Whilst on a trip to Armenia, Auguste Ponsot discovered the resin’s disinfecting qualities and subsequently decided to introduce them to France. Renowned since ancient times for its antiseptic, healing and expectorant properties, benzoin balm has been traditionally applied externally to treat asthma, coughs and hoarseness.
These famous fragranced paper booklets have been hand soaked in a process that takes more than 6 months. While a strip of Papier d’Armenie burns slowly, it produces a delicate scent that not only neutralizes unpleasant smells (cooking, tobacco, pets and bathrooms) but also refreshes the room. Convenient and very easy to use, one strip is enough to gently fragrance any indoor space.
To this day, Papier d’Arménie is produced in the same factory in Montrouge, France. Only traditional manufacturing methods are used. The basic formula and recipe from 1885 remain unchanged.
How to use:
Tear out a strip, fold it into a fan or concertina (accordion) pattern and place it on a heat-proof surface. Light one end of the paper and it will begin to smolder, blow gently so that the paper begins to glow – it should not burn quickly. It can also be used without being lit. Simply place one sheet in wardrobes, dressers, chest of drawers, books, etc and it will slowly release a soft, sweet fragrance.
Available in three variations:
Tradition incense paper is the original scent (green booklet) Sweet Vanilla – Balsam
Arménie incense paper (blue booklet) Myrhh – Woody
Rose incense paper is the result of a collaboration with the famous perfumer Francis Kurkdjian (rose booklet)
Each booklet contains 36 detachable strips.
