Introducing Edition Eleven:
Continuing our commitment to sharing makers’ stories and ensuring the craftspeople of the world have a place to reach new audiences – free from algorithms and distractions, in this edition, we dive into our first boots-on-the-ground exploration in Ballarat, Victoria, a city with a rich history and a burgeoning creative renaissance. During the Ballarat Heritage Festival and UNESCO Creative Cities events in the last week of May this year, we were on the scene, engaging with local makers, and documenting the week’s events as they unfolded. Alongside this feature we share eleven stories from global makers, each one a unique and personal journey. Amy Krone in New York, inspired by a serendipitous find in a second-hand bookstore, creates Cambium Lost Arts and explores the art of basketry. Idris Olabode from Lagos, Nigeria shares his deep connection with clay, crafting unique ceramics from locally sourced materials. From Fife, Scotland, Greg Field makes the most sought-after leather jackets that are loved by customers worldwide & so much more.
The Glasgow-born quarterly publication We Are Makers exists to ‘connect the reader and the maker’ while providing an opportunity for in-depth stories to be shared, craft to be (deservedly) shown off and creative communities cultivated.
