This smudge stick combines white sage and rosemary in order to take advantage of the properties of both plants at the same time.
Burning sage — also known as smudging — is an ancient spiritual ritual. For centuries, this simple-yet-mystical tradition—in which palo santo, sage and other cleansing plants such as sweetgrass are burned to signify the start of a ritual—has been used by a multitude of spiritual faiths, including Hindus, Buddhists and indigenous cultures in North and South America.
Burning white sage (Salvia Apiana) is well known for its ability to purify and cleanse. It creates a calming ritual that helps to release the stagnant energy that can breed negativity.
White sage can be burnt for many reasons including moving into a new home, after a period of illness, starting a new chapter in your life or simply to refresh your energy before your daily meditation.
Rosemary is so common that we usually forget its great properties. As a powerful invigorating plant that allows to raise good vibrations and to cleanse negative energies. It can also be used during protection rituals of people and places. After burning rosemary, the atmosphere is clean and pure and we feel a sensation of peace and wellbeing.
Light the end of the bundle with a match. Blow out quickly if it catches on fire. The tips of the leaves should smolder slowly, releasing thick smoke. Direct this smoke around your space with one hand while holding the bundle in the other. Allow the incense to linger on the areas you’d like to focus on. The glow will end on its own unless you blow on the ember which will keep the smoke going. You can re-light any time and reuse it. Allow the ash to collect in a fire proof bowl.
It’s also important to leave a window open before, during, and after smudging. This allows smoke to escape.
