There’s an inherent spatial separation between interior and exterior. But when a window opens, interior and exterior no longer apply. It’s impossible to tell where “within” ends and “without” begins… A window allows for the possibility of an appearance. A contrast between two scenes. Reflections are key as they taint everything they touch, affecting our perception of any image. In the process of seeing, the viewer becomes an integral part of what they have just seen. It is now impossible to separate the two.
The viewer is the actor. My window views are my personages. (Rik De Boe).
